Golden Evening - Hitchin Lavender

My photograph was Commended by the judges in the
Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011 competition.
The image has also been published in the
Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011 book 5.

I visited the lavender fields with friends one Saturday afternoon, we arrived about 2pm. As the afternoon went on and the sun became more golden, the colours of the lavender became more intense and the texture of the flowers more visible. Other visitors left and we had the fields to ourselves. Not only were the fields exciting to photograph but so were the clouds that helped to make the scene. I have never known 6 hours to pass so quickly, but suddenly
it was 8pm! This picture was taken at 7.40pm.
